Welcome to a new school year

Back to School at VSB: Updates, Supports and Ways to Connect

Welcome to 2025-2026 school year. Whether you’re returning or new to VSB, we’re glad you’re part of our community. We hope this message finds your family well as you prepare for the new school year.

If you have questions or wonder about anything as the year begins, please reach out to your child’s teacher or principal. We know that good communication supports every student’s journey. And with that, below are updates and information to help the school year start off right.

School Enrolment

If your family moved during the summer—either to a different neighbourhood or out of the city—please let your current school know as soon as you can. Notifying the school helps open up spots for other students who may be on the waitlist. School staff will reach out to families if a space becomes available for waitlisted students. Spots may open at any time during the school year.

Health and Safety Updates

This year, we've made updates to improve safety and support throughout our schools. Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) and naloxone kits are now in every VSB school.

Family Learning and Engagement

Visit the Family and Community Information section of our website at: [vsb.bc.ca/page/81591/family-and-community-information] for program details, ways to get involved and resources to support student learning. Tune in to our VSB: After the Bell – Live online sessions for families in the coming months. We’ll update you about upcoming topics and dates. Last year’s topics included:

  • Digital literacy, online safety and artificial intelligence (AI)
  • Preparing for kindergarten

Listen to our podcast, VSB: After the Bell, for topics that matter to student families. You can find past episodes on our website at [vsb.bc.ca/page/60332/podcast] or wherever you get podcasts.

Your Voice Matters – Sharing Your Accessibility Feedback

VSB welcomes and seeks ongoing feedback about accessibility. Input helps ensure our schools, offices, programs and services are accessible to students, families, staff and the broader Vancouver community. We are dedicated to continually improving accessibility and removing barriers to build greater equity for our community.

Stay Connected

We want to keep you informed and involved all year. Please watch your inbox for future messages. Visit [vsb.bc.ca] and your school’s website for updates and key dates. Follow us on social media for the latest news. We encourage you to volunteer at your child’s school or attend PAC meetings to help shape our school communities.

Thank you for making our VSB a vibrant, caring place for students to learn and thrive. We look forward to the year ahead and all it brings!
